    • About the Walk Audit: The Indian Village Neighborhood Association is committed to fostering a safe and connected neighborhood. As part of our ongoing efforts, we will conduct a walk audit in August to enhance the safety of our community. A walk audit is a group activity that assesses the safety, comfort, and accessibility of a walking environment for pedestrians. The goal is to identify issues that may impact people of all ages and abilities, and to propose recommendations for improvement. The walk audit goals are to identify areas for improvement in the neighborhood, especially concerning access to Van Dorn Park.

    • We are encouraging all neighborhood residents to participate in the Walk Audit, share insights, and contribute to making Indian Village an even more welcoming and secure community. We will host a gathering with refreshments post Walk Audit to discuss how the data will be used as well as some of the upcoming projects/plans for the neighborhood like the Van Dorn Redevelopment Plan and the Van Dorn Park Master Plan.

    • Why a Walk Audit Matters:

      • Enhances Safety: Identifying safety hazards and finding ways to address them.

      • Promotes Accessibility: Ensures that all residents can enjoy the amenities our neighborhood offers including Van Dorn Park without barriers.

      • Strengthens Community Bonds: Collaborative efforts bring us closer and make our neighborhood a better place to live.

    • The Walk Audit will provide additional qualitative data to support the need for a safer crossing at 10th & High Street for bicyclists and pedestrians to access the community park. The data will be compiled into a report to be shared with our City of Lincoln departments like Transportation and Utilities, Parks and Recreation, Planning, and City Council. There are funding opportunities for a safe pedestrian crossing, making this project a valuable first step to determining the right project design.

    • Lincoln Channel 8 (June 16, 2024), “Lincoln neighborhood pleads for traffic light at deadly intersection.”

    • KZUM "Our Street" Show (July 8, 2024), Listen to neighbors Diane Walkowiak and Brittany Wren talk about the upcoming walk audit.
